— Reaffirms commitment to strengthening healthcare education in Katsina
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has approved the release of ₦305.5 million for the payment of allowances to 565 indigenous medical students studying within Nigeria and abroad.
The intervention, according to government officials, is part of the administration’s sustained investment in education and healthcare — two major pillars of Governor Radda’s Building Your Future agenda.
Confirming the development, the General Manager of the Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board (HSMB), Dr. Muhammad Nazir Shehu, said the payment covers both regular student allowances and special project support for final-year medical students.
Dr. Shehu noted that the initiative aims to reduce the financial burden on students and enable them to focus on their academic and clinical training. He described the gesture as a deliberate investment in the future of healthcare delivery in the state.
“This approval by His Excellency is more than a financial intervention; it is a deliberate investment in the future of healthcare in Katsina,” Dr. Shehu said. “We expect the beneficiaries to honour this trust by excelling in their studies and returning to serve our people.”
He added that the Governor’s decision aligns with a broader plan to expand access to medical education, strengthen the local healthcare workforce, and ensure the sustainability of medical services across the state.
Since assuming office, Governor Radda has prioritised reforms in the health sector — from upgrading medical infrastructure and expanding rural healthcare access to improving the training and welfare of medical personnel and students.
This latest approval complements several other initiatives, including the rehabilitation of health facilities, expansion of therapeutic nutrition centres, and recruitment of skilled healthcare professionals aimed at building a resilient and people-centred healthcare system in Katsina.
The Hospital Services Management Board expressed appreciation to Governor Radda for his continued support and leadership, assuring that the funds would be disbursed transparently for the benefit of all qualified students.
The Board also urged beneficiaries to remain disciplined and committed, stressing that their success would reflect the Governor’s faith in the potential of Katsina youth to drive progress in the health sector.
By prioritising medical education, Governor Radda’s administration seeks to nurture the next generation of doctors while reinforcing the belief that a society’s true strength lies in the health, knowledge, and resilience of its people.
